Advisors: Sung-Hou Kim, Ph.D.
Prof. Sung-Hou Kim received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, in 1960 and 1962, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1966. After holding positions as a postdoctoral fellow and Senior Research Scientist in Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Biochemistry at Duke University School of Medicine, first as an Assistant Professor (1972), then as an Associate Professor (1974). In 1978, he joined the faculty of the University of California , Berkeley (UCB) as a Professor with a joint appointment as a Senior Faculty Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Berkeley. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Calvin Laboratory, UCB, the Head of the Berkeley Structural Genomics Center, LBNL, and the Head of the Structural Biology Department, Physical Biosciences Division, LBNL.
Dr. Kim was a Fulbright Fellow (1962) and a Guggenheim Fellow (1985-1986), as well as a Visiting Professor at Beijing University (1982) and the University of Paris (1986). He is the recipient of numerous awards in the United States, Japan, and Korea. Dr. Kim is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
